Margo

Margo, Marcasite Aurora Skies JW, is an Edna and Kareem daughter and, in many ways, a little twist of fate.

She was never part of the original plan. When I made the decision to retire Elsie from the ring but knew I still wanted to continue showing, I chose to use the very last of the frozen semen I had imported from Canada. It felt like closing one chapter and daring to write another. I promised myself, very firmly, that I would only keep a puppy from that litter if it was exactly what I had been hoping for in the show ring.

The moment Margo arrived, I knew.

Margo is a pocket rocket wrapped in silver satin. Small, fiery, fiercely clever and deliciously quirky, she has presence far beyond her size. The ring is not somewhere she simply stands, it is somewhere she comes alive.

She has taken me to heights I never imagined possible and carved out a little piece of history along the way, becoming the first and only silver Standard Poodle to gain a Junior Warrant title in the last nineteen years, meaning she is also qualified for Crufts for life.

Alongside her success in the ring, she has gained her Kennel Club Good Citizen Bronze Award and holds several trick dog titles, reflecting the intelligence and trainability that make her such a joy to live and work with.

Beyond the ring, Margo has dipped her paw into modelling, most notably representing Forthglade, Sabre Pet Food and Pet Head. She, like all of my dogs, is entirely at ease in front of a camera and behaves as though she understands exactly where the lens is and what it wants.

I am thoroughly enjoying every minute of showing Margo and have plans to campaign her abroad in the future, where there are dedicated classes for silver, blue and apricot poodles. I am excited at the prospect of competing against like dogs and seeing how she measures up on a wider stage.

As I have no immediate plans to breed from Margo, she has not yet completed her full health testing. Both her mother and father are fully health tested and clear of all relevant inherited conditions, meaning Margo is clear by heritage.

Even so, I fully intend to carry out her DNA testing in the near future. For me, responsible breeding is not about convenience or timelines, it is about transparency and doing what is right, regardless of immediate plans.

Margo has, however had her hips scored with the BVA and they are a fantastic 0/0, just like her sister Elsie!
