Edna

Edna (Lucy in Sky Grey at Marcasite) is the original Marcasite poodle, the blueprint written in curls.

She was not my first dog, but she was the first I trusted with a legacy.

She arrived at ten weeks old and from that first meeting I was utterly captivated. Bright eyed and brimming with curiosity, she blossomed into a wonderful obedience dog and we even dipped our toes into agility together, her enthusiasm fizzing through every class.

Her appetite for learning was contagious and soon we were collecting trick dog titles side by side.

I initially health tested Edna simply to ensure she was fit for the adventures we loved, but as her results came in I realised I had not only an exceptionally intelligent and emotionally attuned companion, but an exceptionally healthy one too. That was the moment the seed was planted. Edna became a natural mother, calm and devoted, later even producing milk to help feed her grandchildren, as though nurturing were stitched into her very being.

Along the way she has enjoyed a touch of the spotlight, modelling and undertaking film work for Hotels.com, Inspiralist, The Lady and Pet Head.

Edna is now ten and a half years old and she remains a daily delight, still spring loaded with joy and entirely unconvinced that slowing down is something that applies to her.
